Will’s first weeks of lockdown

Like many, the first couple of weeks of lockdown went pretty quickly and I was busy (and motivated!!) with chores that needed doing – jet-washing the walker, lorry, stables, quad bike and even the arena Harrow – basically anything that didn’t move got a blast.
The horses had a couple of quiet weeks, which coincided rather nicely with some warmer weather, so it was great for them to have rugs off with the sun on their backs in the summer paddocks. The ‘To Do’ list dwindled and I’ll be honest so did my enthusiasm…
We’ve done our bit for the NHS by getting involved in ‘Virtual Eventing’ which will be shown on Badminton weekend. It’s raising money for a great cause and hopefully will provide some much needed entertainment! Any extra donations would be greatly appreciated : https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROSomeoneSpecialPage?pageId=1157025
Even though we can’t have training with Pip, she has sent some great exercises on the new coaching app ‘OnForm’ for us to all do at our bases. We are blessed with modern technology that allows us to communicate as a group and continue pretty much as normal… We’ve even had a group Pilates session on Zoom with Julie Driver!
Fortunately horse movement from Ireland hasn’t been affected and we have welcomed 2 rather gorgeous horses to the yard. Full of Mischief (Freya) is a lovely 8 year old mare owned by Brianne Stanley and 4 year old LSR Monbeg Galaxy (Galaxy) have settled well into Sussex life and I’m very excited about their futures. All the horses seem blissfully unaware of all the commotion.
There will be no excuses for poor performance when/if we finally get out eventing!
